“Child sexual abuse” – When a child is been convinced or forced by someone physically, emotionally, or financially in any sexual activity, whether or not as a part of study activity by their family member or any outsider.
Most of the reader who is reading this, they must have encountered child sexual abuse, either by themselves or by the means of others, at least this is what Ministry of Women and Child Development statistics say. But there is nowhere open discussion about it, every victim thinks that this happened with him/her only and it’s so shameful that it can’t be shared with anyone. Very hardly someone shares it with their close ones. And it is very obvious, this cannot be shared easily, because it’s very unforgettable guilt of not doing anything about what happened to you as most of the time the monster is your family member, relative, or neighbor, and by the time you realized their mistake you were bounded to respect them. People are also not willing to share these because of fear that society will not accept them as they were after knowing the truth. Every second child in India is a victim of sexual abuse and the saddest part is, most of them realize it after a decade. And to be very specific here child means both boys and girls, even National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights statistics says numbers are higher for boys. These events left behind not only a depressing past but in some cases lifelong health problems also.
I don’t know about the ratio of this event in a different class of Indian society. But this is everywhere, whether it’s the urban or rural part of India. People don’t share these thoughts, posts, or content assuming that receiver might think that they were survivors at some point, which is totally wrong because the conversation is the first step to start anything. There are several government committees and bodies by the state government, central government, and NGOs against child sexual abuse, but very less people know about it. At least conversation may lead to acknowledging these issues and most importantly parents shall consider it as a part of parenting. I am glad to see few convent schools have started it as a part of extra circular activity i.e good touch & bad touch.
